The Substance

Presence Film
The acclaimed director tests his directorial skills in this innovative paranormal narrative captured wholly through the eyes of a ghost. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe moves into their new suburban house, the lens – as the unseen entity – follows them around. This Creepy Thriller
Scott Derrickson's contained scarefest remains effective despite the lack of a continuation. Set in 1970s Colorado, multiple disappearances has rendered the children frightened. However, the old telephone in the room continues to ring, with ghostly voices offering help, as the prophetic visions of his sister Gwen could save him. A genuinely scary movie. The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for greed in this director's delightfully tacky biopic of the disgraced religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield plays the corrupt Bakker, who declares at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye commence monetising the nation's spiritual convictions. It's a riot of bad interior design, bad makeup and hypocrisy, yet Jessica Chastain achieves to depict the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, the Film4 channel
